Creating A Podcast - 2 Soeurs et... Interview

Pic by me

  • Could you please tell the readers more about you ?

Hi everyone ! We are Aurélie and Tiffany, we are French twin sisters !

Aurélie : « I live in Amiens » a small city in the north of France and I work in public services »

Tiffany : « And me, I live in Paris since last year and I’m in charge of communication for a few weeks. I worked before in Human Resources and I made the decision to change course ».

Aurélie & Tiffany : « Actually, we both decided to change course, and we study digital marketing and communication »

We are so excited about that decision !

  •  A year ago, you decided to launch a podcast (only available in French), that you named “2 Soeurs et…” (in English: 2 Sisters and…). By the way, I had the honor and the pleasure to be your first guest ! Thank you again, I remember we had such a good time ! What made you decide to do it ? What’s the message behind it ? Who is it for ?

Yes ! We decided to launch a podcast, almost 2 years ago (November 2020), named « 2 Soeurs et… ».

And the same for us, it was a pleasure to have you as our first guest. And by the way, it was the first time that we discovered your amazing apartment !! :)

What made us decide to launch the podcast ? Good question ! :)

It all started before and during the covid.

Aurélie : “I started to listen to podcasts on many topics (religion, discrimination, couples, afro women…) and I really enjoyed the concept because it’s so authentic. People are so real that we can all find at least one podcast we like”.

Tiffany : « And then during the covid, many of us couldn’t work anymore because of the virus, so we had to stay at home and find new activities to not rely on.

Aurélie and I started to listen to podcasts often, and discuss episodes after that.

And then, we thought about launching our own podcast, because we wanted to create our media and talk about all the topics that interest us and now the podcast has 2 seasons, so we are proud !”

The message behind the podcast is to introduce different people with different projects and we hope it can help some people, thanks to the testimonials, to find their way.

  • How do you come up every time with ideas and questions ? Do you contact all your guests or some also reach out to you ? How do you choose your guests ?

If we find a profile that we find interesting, we contact the guests, usually via social media (Instagram). And on the other hand, some guests contact us. For example, for the next episode, the guests contacted us.

  • You both have a job. How do you combine your jobs and the production of your podcast

Yes, we both have a job and we live in different cities. Combining our jobs and the recordings can be sometimes rough. But it’s okay because we really enjoy recording and sharing new topics with people who listen to us. And as we do not live too far from each other, we just keep on doing this ! :)

  • Having a podcast requires to have good equipment. Could you please tell us more about the devices and software(s) you are using to produce your podcast ? Is your equipment the same as in the beginning or did you upgrade and invest in some tools ?

We tried to have good equipment, so we invested money, with no hesitation because we are not professionals but we tried to offer a minimum of good quality.

Equipment :

· 4 microphones for recording, brand : Rockville (US brand)

· 4 headphones, brand : Rockville (US brand)

· A computer : Mac

· Software : Garageband is very easy for beginners but only available on Mac

· Behriger MIDI Interface

· And a lot of cables to connect the equipment

We changed some equipment: when we started to record, we were still using old computers that were going to die !!

And besides, just before the broadcast of the first episode, Tiffany's computer let us down !

  • What advice would you give to people who would like to start a podcast ? What is the most important personality trait and strength someone would need to do it ?

To people who would like to launch a podcast : JUST DO IT !! But first, it requires good preparation to make sure it will work, but the only piece of advice: JUST DO IT !!

We don’t think there is a special personality trait and strength to launch a podcast, but it’s important to believe in the topics you are presenting and make sure people enjoy it. Then, the more you record, the more you improve.

  • What are the best platforms to start with ?

The best platform to start with is Ausha, an app that broadcasts our recordings to all listening platforms (Apple, Deezer, Spotify, Soundcloud,…)

  • You created a podcast but I am sure, like a lot of people, you listen to a few. What is or are your favorite podcast(s) ?

A few podcasts we listen to :

Aurélie : « Kiffe ta race », « En face de toi », « Les couilles sur la table », « Transfert – Slate Podcast »

Tiffany : « Lets catchup », « Tant que je serai noire », « the womanist podcast », « J’peux pas, j’ai thérapie ! »

  • How do you see the evolution of your podcast in a few years ? What is your long-term vision ?

Our big dream for the podcast is to evolve it, and expand it by creating a show ! Why not like Oprah Winfrey ?! 😊

  • What has been your favorite interview so far ? And why ?

We don’t want to create jealousy among our guests ! But for information, the episode that worked the most is the one with Ken On’Okoko.
